Combat promotion ceremony aboard the USS Iwo Jima (LPH-2) held on March 2, 1967. Sergeant Frank Alaniz from Lubbock, Texas, was promoted to his current rank as a result of wounds received in action during Operation Deckhouse VI. The combat meritorious promotion was presented by Lieutenant Colonel Jack Westerman, his Battalion Commander.
