Fig. There are two other varieties;one in which the toes are drawn upby contraction of the extensors, andthe patient walks upon the heel;and the other when the dorsum orinstep comes in contact with theground. Besides which there maybe various complications of theabove. The prognosis will depend uponthe degree of contraction, the va-riety of the deformity, the conditionof the bones, and the age of thepatient. Treatment.—Many cases of con-genital club foot may be rectifiedby constantly wearing a properapparatus, especially if the treat-ment be commenced in early child-hood ; but in confirmed cases it is DISEASES OF THE EYELIDS. 121 better to resort at once to Stromeyers operation of division of thetendons. The operation is thus performed. The tendon is put on the stretchy and a narrow, sharp-pointedknife is thrust through the skin externally to the tendon; then theedge is directed towards the tendon and the knife withdrawn,cutting the tendon as it escapes.
