The threedaughters were sul)sequently married to the three Sultans ofBerar, Ahmednugger, and Bieder (Bahmanee), so that familyties joined the Mahomedan kingdoms closely together. AdilShah was seventy-five years of age when he died, and Ferishtasays of him that he was handsome in person, eloquent ofspeech, and eminent for his learning, liberality, and valour. CHAPTER XIV. THE NIZAM SHAHS OV HE father of tlio firstNizam Shah was aBrahmin, wlio wastaken prisoner in oneof the wars of AhmedShah Bahmanee, made a Mus-sulman, and educated as aroyal slave under the nameof Malick Hoossein. He wasa lad of considerable ability,^ and being educated togetherwith the Sultans eldest son, Mahomed, acquired a considerableknowledge of Persian and Arabic. When Mahomed ascendedthe throne (1462) Malick Hoossein was promoted to the rank ofone thousand, and placed in charge of the royal falconry,from which he derived the name of Beheree {Beher meaninga falcon). He was subsequently made Governor of theTelingana provinces, and after Khajeh Gawans death, succeededhim in office with the title of Malick Naib.
