. 227th Field Company, Royal Engineers Major Joseph passed with honours at the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich in December 1912. He was commissioned to the Royal Engineers in December 1912 and went to France in August 1914. He was mentioned in Despatches on three occasions and received his majority in June 1917.
