William H. and Hannah(Brown) Allen, was born at Penacook, October 17, 1848, andreceived his education at the public schools of the village, wherehe has always resided. After his school days were over he entered his fathers store to. William W. Allen. learn the dry goods business. In that business he soon becamean expert salesman, and has so continued to the present gradually took up more and more of the business cares until1886, when he purchased his fathers business and has since con-ducted it on his own account. The Allen store has always beena popular place of business, and the present proprietor has keptup its reputation and increased the volume of business. CHARLES ABBOTT. 419 Mr. Allen has found time to take an active interest in all thepublic affairs of the village. In politics he has been a very effi-cient manager in the interests of the Republican party, serving asan officer of the local club most of the time, also has served asward clerk several years. He was honored by election as repre-sentative to the New Hampshire legislature in 1877, the last yearof the annual sessions of that body, and again in 1878, the first ofthe biennial sessions.
