Theearly popularity in France of the Irish Saints voyage is illustrated by theallusion of Pierre St. Cloud—that among the graceful resources of a troubadourwas his ability to sing a tale Of Arthur brave or Tristram bold,Of Charpel, or Saint Brendan old. French interest in the subject has not abated even during our time, judging fromthe fact that two French versions, as well as the original in Latin, were printedin Paris in 1836.
