A Roman gold ring for an officer of the Legio XI 2nd/3rd century. Heavy, massively crafted shank with an inset cameo made from blue layer agate surrounded by filigree beads on top. The cameo with raised inscription "LEG XI CLAU" between two stars. Outer diameter 24 mm, weight g. The Legio XI was established in 58 BC and was awarded the honorific title "Claudia Pia Fidelis" under Emperor Claudius. Delicately worked ring for a high-ranking legionary officer.
