History of Portugal. The Portuguese court's move to Brazil. Queen Maria I of Portugal and the Prince Regent (the future John VI of Portugal), together with the whole Lusitanian court, fled to the Portuguese colony of Brazil to escape from Napoleon Bonaparte's troops that were invading the country.
