Great Salt Desert, Iran, satellite image. This is an uninhabited wasteland of mud and salt marshes, covered with crusts of salt that prevent the last of the water evaporating. It is also called the Dasht-e Kavir, or Kavir Desert, and is the largest desert in Iran. Image taken on 24 October 2000, in visible and infrared wavelengths, by the Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) sensor aboard NASA's Landsat 7 satellite.
