Hewas one of the originators and with a fewothers organized the association of chusetts Three Months Volunteers, after-wards merged into the association ofMintite Men of 61, serving as its Secre-tary and Adjutant seven A-ears. A memberof Post 35, G-A-R Chelsea, Mass., andether fraternal organizations. He diedMarch 17, 19U3, at Everett, Mass. ; thefuneral was largely attended by the MinuteMen of 61, Pest 35, G-A-R and George O Brastow, Somerville, Mass. Minute Men of 61Capt. Co. I, Fifth Mass. Maj. U S Vols. Major George O. Brastow was born inWrentham, Mass., September 8, November 20, 1878. He was Captain of the Somerville Com-pany in the Fifth Massachusetts VoltinteerMilitia during its three months term, andwas very popular throughout the wholeRegiment by reason of his zeal andefficiency as an officer and the magnetismof his genial and kindly nature. He was commissioned as Paymaster withthe rank of Major in 1862. He was twiceelected Mayor of Somerville, and alsoserved as member of the Legislature forseveral years, during two of which he wasPresident of the Senate. 166 Minute Men of 61
