Portrait of a Girl Playing with a Ball. Around 1890 it became possible to enlarge small negatives and make blow-ups of photographs. Breitner selected 65 city views and figure studies for this purpose. The bromide paper was tacked to a wall in a dark room and the negative projected onto it with an enlarginglantern. Blurring and loss of detail did not bother him; he was more concerned with the atmosphere and the impression.
