Former Stasi prisoner Mario Röllig in corridor of interrogation rooms in former prison of Hohenschönhausen

Mario Roellig was imprisoned in Hohenschopenhausen for three months in 1987. The prison run by the East German Ministry for State Security was closed in 1990 following German unification. Critics of the East German regime and people caught trying to escape to the west were interrogated and imprisoned here. The complex was listed as a historical monument in 1992 and now serves as a memorial to explore the history of the prison. Most of the guided tours are conducted by former inmates.
