The grapes arrivedOctol^er 7, 1887, and were crashed the following day. Their conditionwas good, stems rather dry, but berries turgid and sound; coulureapparently less than at Mission San Jose, but a few prematurely driedberries are shriveled up. Will make a fair test of quality of wine, ifnot of weight of grapes. The latter are very sweet, apparently not quiteas acid as at Mission San Jose. The juice showed per cent ofsolid contents. Fermentation of 81 pounds crushed reached its maxi-mum of 89° on October 10th. It was drawn off on the 12th, fourdays from crushing, showing a rapid fermentation. The yield fromthe above amount of grapes was 6| gallons, or at the rate of 170 gallonsper ton. / Record of Treatment and Tasting.—1887. December 5. Racked the young wine fromthe lees. December 19.
