Several different forms are manufac-tured, shunt type, two and three-wire ainmeters andw-attmeters; series or transformer type, two or three-wiresingle phase wattmeters for use on three or four wire, twophase, or three phase circuits. In each type the record ismade on a paper chart ruled with rectangular co-ordinatesand driven by clockwork mechanism. The movement of therecording pen across the chart is proportional to the quan-titj measured and the speed of the record chart is controlledby a driving clock. The switchboard, or permanent mounting-form is shown in figure 1. The measuring elements con-sist of two mercury floated motor elements so located as toactuate a common indicator to which is attached a record-. ing pen which traces a line or curve on the moving principle employed is the same in all .orms, the onlydifference being in the type of winding or magnets emploj^ construction insures a uniformity and interchange-ability of product which is highly desirable. In addition tothe recording feature each meter is proviocd with an indi-cating scale, thus rendering unnecessary the use of indicat-ing ammeters or wattmeters. The portable type, illustratedin figure 2, employs the same elements as the switchboardform with exception of the case and of bind-ing posts or terminals. Each meter is provided with two measuring elementswhich may be separately energized as in polyphase watt-meters, three wire direct current and alternating singlephase; or may be connected in series or parallel for use ontwo wire direct current or single phase alternating. Themoving element consists of a simple metal disk or sectorrigidly attached to a shaft c
