Bering Glacier, Alaska, satellite image. North is at top. The Bering Glacier (white) is the largest glacier in North America. It currently terminates at Lake Vitus (lower centre, light blue), about 10 kilometres from the Gulf of Alaska (lower right, blue), and flows into the sea through a small outlet (bottom centre). The glacier is bordered by moraines on either side (grey), areas of rock that have been pulverised by the weight of the glacier. Icebergs are seen in the lake. Image data obtained on 25 September 1986.
