The Long Stone (The Longstone), prehistoric standing stone, and modern land boundary marker, looking north east to Kestor Rock, Dartmoor. Situated just south and over the ridge from the prehistoic sites on Down Tor, the Longstone stands over 10ft () high, and once marked the end of 2 prehistoric stone rows. This area of Dartmoor is rich in prehistoric monuments; stone rows, standing stones, stone circles, and cairns. The Longstone was used once again as a boundary marker, this time denoting a meeting place of the boundaries of Gidleigh parish, Chagford Parish and the Duchy of Cornwall lands. To this end the initials; ‘DC’ (Duchy of Cornwall) is carved on the south face (visible), ‘GP’ (Gidleigh Parish) on the west face (in shadow), ‘CP’ (Chagford Parish) not visible on north face. Folklore says it revolves slowly at sunrise to warm each face.
