One of the so called new steam engines, (99 7235-7), that came into service on the 1000mm narrow gauge railway network in 1954 on the East/West German border. Now working on all lines of the Harzer Schmalspurbahnen, Germany . At the time of this picture the steam engine was working on the Brocken Railway, a metre gauge line to the summit of the Brocken, the highest mountain in the Harz region of Germany. The peak of the Brocken was a military base and has only been open the public for a relatively short time. Until the reunification of Germany the mountain was oof limits to all but the Soviet Army.
