The principal workings are the Dead Horse shaft, over 1700 on the dip of vein, and the Lady Washington tunnel, which is acrosscut meeting the shaft at the 1165 level, 2400 ft. from the tunnelportal, and from that point is a drift on the vein driven over 900 the time of writers visit, and since extended farther. The shaft,which is said to have been full of water below the tunnel level for 20years has been unwatered during the past summer for the purpose ofopening a level at 1750 ft. and exploring the vein. Two shoots were. Photo No. 62. Mill of the Grizzly Mining Co. (formerly New Albany Mill), near Tuolumne. worked formerly from the shaft to a depth of 1400 ft. and the levelsabove the Lady Washington tunnel are abandoned. The reduction plant is nine years old and consists of twenty , 3 Frue vanners, 2 Hardinge mills and cyanide equipment. The property has first right to water from the river and the supplyis ample for power and milling except in the fall of very dry 14-ft. Pelton wheel using water under 125 lb. pressure operates theair compressor. The mine is connected with the road by a tramway. TUOLUMNE COUNTY. 485 OTHER QUARTZ MINES AND PROSPECTS. During the past summer there has been some prospecting onnumerous properties in the southern end of the county and nearTuttletown, as noted briefly below.
