Pygmy goats are small, horned goats that were used for meat and milk production. They stand between 16 and 23 inches tall at the shoulder. Goats are ruminants which means they store food they have swallowed in the first chamber of a four chambered stomach. When resting they bring this food back up into their mouths for a second chew. This is called chewing the cud & it enables them to get as much nutrients out of their food as possible. Goats were one of the first wild animals to be tamed by people about 10,000 years ago.
