Retrograde Hot Jupiter transit. Artwork of a Jupiter-like gas giant planet transiting its parent star. This planet, which orbits very close to its star, is of a type known as a Hot Jupiter. It also orbits in a direction opposite to the stellar rotation, so is known as a retrograde Hot Jupiter. This rare planetary configuration is caused by gravitational perturbations by another, more distant planet (upper left, dot in background).
