'Saint Cosimo and Saint Damian, Patron Saints of the Barber-Surgeons', 15th century, (1948). Early Christian martyrs Cosmas and Damian were Arab physicians, reputedly twin brothers. They were martyred in Syria during the persecution of the Roman emperor Diocletian (284-305 AD). Cosmas and Damian are patron saints of the Worshipful Company of Barbers, one of the livery companies of the City of London. 15th century illumination from "Annals of the Barber-Surgeons".
