OnMarch 9 the division com-mander transmitted to the chiefof staff of the United StatesArmy the rather voluminouscorrespondence of the precedingthree months on the subject ofthe recruits needed to expandthe division to its maximumauthorized strength. At thesame time he reiterated his re-quest to have the five thousand men needed by this division sent here at oncein order that they may be at least partially trained before our departure over-seas.
