Mr. Taylor born in Livingston County,Mich., August 29, 1849, being the fourth of eightchildren that comprised the household of Richardand Mary (Lumb) Taylor. The gentleman of whom we writepassed his boyhood in his native county, amid suchsurroundings as belonged to farm life, and in theenjoyment of the usual school privileges. At theage of twenty years he entered Bryant & StrattonsCommercial College, in Detroit, and was graduatedtherefrom with an excellent understanding of busi-ness methods and details. The first business in which Mr. Taylor engagedafter leaving the school room was in Leslie, wherefor about fourteen years he sold .agricultural imi)le-ments, and all kinds of farm machinery. Comingto this city and purchasing the business and estab-ment which he is now conducting, and which wasthen run on the old system, he continued it in that.
