Pile of logs used in a Biomass furnace in a Darby, Montana school.
Logs are stockpiled and ready to be chipped as fuel for the biomass boiler in Darby, Montana. The biomass plant, constructed as part of Montana’s Fuels For Schools program in 2003, uses woody biomass to power the boiler which heats the Darby schools. The wood chips come from hazardous fuel reduction projects, trees killed by mountain pine beetle, and other recycled forest products.
