It lieswithin a wood, on the top of a steep bank sloping to the Leet, andis in form a truncated cone, apparently of earth, varying from 19 feet6 inches to 25 feet in height and with a level and somewhat ovalsummit measuring some 62 feet by 70 feet in diameter, surroundedby a ditch some 30 feet wide at the bottom and 9 to 10 feet deep belowthe crest of the counter-scarp, which has a slight mound on the topof it. Cliff Fort, Milne Graden.—A little over J mile to the south-east of Milne Graden West Mains, in the angle between the road toColdstream and the top of the cliff on the left bank of the Tweed,partly in a grass park and partly in a thick covert, are the remains ofa strongly fortified enclosure (fig. 55). It has been enclosed by threeparallel segmental ramparts resting on the bank of the river.
