A complete submucous should be performed in every case;by that I mean not only the cartilage, but the thick cartilage andbone between the middle turbinates as well as the crest shouldbe removed. It is not necessary for me to describe the technic of a snb- 279 280 mucous resection, but I wish to call your attention to severalpoints which so far as I have been able to find out are eithernew or have never been reported. In some cases the deflection in the cartilage extends nearlyto the upper limit of the nose. If this is left a tenting of themucous membrane above is the result; if it is removed the A Fig. 1 B A. Shows largest piece of cartilage left. B. Shows smallest piece of cartilage left. The dotted line above shows cut in cartilage it necessary to makeit hang straight.
