In the department of ISTatural Philosophy and Chemistry,apparatus to illustrate the different subjects, also a very valua-ble Cabinet in Mineralogy and Geology, obtained from differentparts of America, Europe, and Asia, have been commenced,and will soon receive important additions. Several thousand volumes of choice works belong to theUniversity Library, and to those of the two Literary valuable additions have been made during the pastcollegiate year to the Libraries. 3. s Candidates for admission must pass a good examination on I the studies of the Preparatoiy Dej^artment, be furnished with I satisfactory testimonials of good moral character, and, if from ;; another institution, with a certificate of their standing and ^ regular dismissal, from the President. i Every student must be examined on all the studies pre- \ viously pursued by the class he wishes to enter. Observation ] and experience prove conclusively that no one can possibly i love a study he does not understand; and in order to under- \ stand the different branches of learning jDursued in the various \ schools of the University, and prosecute them with pleasure I and profit, it is indispensably necessarj^ that every applicant •> for admission should have previously acquired correct habits > of study, and an accurate knowledge of what he professes to I have mastered. , ^
