AH-NI-GHI-TOtook walks with hermother and some of theEskimos nearly every in climbing a steepslope of hard snow AH-NI-GHI-TO began toslip and could not stopherself. It was very far to the bottom and shewas badly frightened, but one of the Eskimoboys ran to her, and digging his feet into thehard snow far enough to catch his heels andkeep himself steady, he held on to her untilshe too had made a place in the snow for herheels. Then together they carefully pickedtheir way off the slippery slope to where thesnow was soft and their feet sank into it. Another time they walked farther than theyintended, and the moon went behind the clouds, 19 CHILDREN OF THE ARCTIC leaving it quite dark. In taking a short cutthey came to a slope which, in the dim light,looked as if it were not very steep, and they de-cided to sit down and slide ; but nosooner was AH-NI-GHI-TO seatedthan away she shot out
