Cadcais, Cidadela Art District, Cicatrizes da Memória

The installation consists of 29 elements that, like a Pandora's box from which cataclysms come, reflect on the participation and responsibility of each of the various ecological and social "disasters" that have occurred in the world. On one side, as if it were a Scrabble game, various colours and senses reveal the names of the most important "disasters" of the century, in a clear reference to the geopolitical games that are at the basis of most of these events. On the other hand, as objects that are extracted from a suitcase, drawings about photography appear, which refer to their visceral reality. The mirrored arches, which reflect the observer, make him an active part of the installation. At 1400 Kg and x x metres, the sculptural piece is composed of a rectangular container and an element cut out in steel, with the stylised shape of a tree, mounted on mirrored steel sheet, in a criticism of industrialisation, neutralisation and destruction of nature itself. The work, which will be on display for a year, was created in 2011 by Júlio Quaresma, an artist and architect who has developed an international career participating in several biennials, such as the Havana Biennial in Cuba, the "End of the World" Biennial in Ushuaia, Argentina, or the I Caribbean Triennial in Santo Domingo, and exhibiting in several museums in the United States, Spain, Brazil and China, among others, many of which already have his works in their collections. Pestana Cidadela Cascais - Pousada & Art District is a five-star Pestana Collection Hotels hotel, and one of the first hotels in Europe to have an Art District inside, with a regular schedule of temporary exhibitions. It is integrated into the Cascais Museum District, surrounded by studios, galleries and museums, overlooking the sea and Cascais marina.
