Bog iron furnace ruin - Furnace Town, Snow Hill, Maryland, USA. This bog iron furnace produced pig iron between 1828 and 1850 using local bog iron, clam and oyster shells, and locally cut wood. This photoshows the furnace and the charging ramp. A heat exchanger (at top of furnace) preheated the furnace air by 600 degrees F.
