Lacrimal gland. Light micrograph of a section through a lacrimal gland. The lacrimal glands, which are situated one above each eye, secrete tears. The glandular tissue contains ductules (white), which transport the glandular secretion to the larger ducts (not seen). The secretion of tears helps keep the front of the eyeball clean. They contain lysozyme, an enzyme that destroys bacteria.
