The second floor is designed for the use of the lightingdepartment and for the storage of materials, and will serveas a place where arc lights used in winter and brought in forsummer repairs can receive attention, and where the prepara-tion of lighting clusters and other similar work can be — /oo-z— Brooklyn Line and Track Buildings—Section Through Stable. — ^ forms of the two departments. The track layout comprisesa loop from Xostrand avenue around the middle or stockdepartment building with a turn-out track in each passage-way to provide two tracks in each instance. The buildings are brick, steel and concrete construction,all columns, except in the steel storage building, being of ironpipe, filled with concrete, in accordance with the design ofthe American Column Company. Foundations. Unexpected difficulty was encountered in placing thefoundations by reason of the discovery, as piers were sunk inthe rear of the property, that the original profile of the groundhad been a side hill which was hidden by an artificial fill ofashes, and other loose materials. At the rear this fill wasfound to be nearly 40 feet deep. Along President street theconcrete piers were sunk despite the great depth, but later Itwas decided to substitute Raymond rei
