A kulah khud, Persian, 1st half of the 19th century. Forged watered steel(?) skull with four embossed, engraved, and gold inlaid sun-faces. Riveted conical crest plate with a fluted, screwed-in, quadrangular spike. Two plume sockets and a sliding nasal (set screw broken off). The riveted rim is surrounded with engraved and gold-inlaid calligraphy and animal ornamentation. Hanging forehead and neck protection of unjointed iron or brass rings (damaged in places).
