Subrahmanya, Valli and Devasena on the back of a peacock

Subrahmanya, Valli and Devasena sit in lalitasana on a throne on the back of Subrahmanya’s peacock. The bird has a magnificent foliated tail. It crushes a large cobra with its talons and carries a smaller one in its beak. Subrahmanya holds in his upper right hand the tanka (chisel), in his upper left the vajra (thunderbolt), and his lower hands are in abhaya and varada mudra. His spear rests on his right shoulder. The consorts – here both fair-complexioned (Valli is usually shown in a dark color) – each carries a lotus flower.
