The ground floor andbasement are utilized for business purposes, and the ceiling is frescoed in the most artistic style and rows ofincandescent electric lights are placed along the corniceand these with the 130 incandescent lights hangingfrom the ceiling, cause the jstablishment at night to as-sume a marvelously beautiful appearance. The furni-ture is of the most elaborate and comfortable kind, thesettees and opera chairs being richly upholstered, andthe footstools of the latest design, being finished and up-holstered in equally elegant style. Everything that canadd to the attractiveness of the place or conduce to thecomfort of patrons or. palatial and splendid appearance of the former with itstwenty foot ceiling and mirrors and plate glass showwindows with mirrored canopy tops, amaze the stranger,and impress him with the remarkable spirit of enter-prise everywhere apparent. The decorations are in oakfinely finished, and the shelving which extends fromfloor to ceiling and runs the whole length of the store,120 feet, convey some idea of the enormous stock,averaging about 35,000 pair and valued at over $,always carried.
