Boys and girls form the Ely Cathedral choir practising for the traditional pancake race held on Shrove Tuesday (Feb 17th) at the Cathedral in is the first time the girls have been allowed to join the boys in the race. Boy and GIRL choristers raced against each other for the first time ever today (Mon) as they practised for a traditional pancake race at Ely Cathedral in Cambridgeshire. Boys have taken part in the annual race for many years, but this year the girls joined in to add some competition. The resident choristers all wore their red cassocks as they flipped pancakes to mark Shrove Tuesday. Each year around 20 choristers race down the nave of the 12th Century Cathedral after Evensong. It is the third longest nave in the UK, measuring 75 metres. "Choristers have taken part in a pancake race at the cathedral for as long as anyone can remember," said Lesley Ann Thompson, a spokeswoman for Ely Cathedral.
