False-colour transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of Streptococcus durans, showing a bacterium in the final stages of division by binary fission. Streptococci are Gram-positive, non-motile, non- sporing bacteria. They are recognized by a tendency to form chains. They occur as parasites of man & animals, contributing to the normal, healthy flora of human respiratory, alimentary (gut), & female genital tracts. Some species may become pathogenic in humans. Magnification: x15,000 at 35mm size. Actually S. durans. - no references available.
