Fresco of St. Nicholas of Myra on the third pillar, in the left aisle. Cathedral Santa Maria Assunta of Nardò; Salento; Apulia, Italy. The present cathedral probably stands on the site of a Byzantine church. In 1080, a church was built here by the conquering Normans. The church got the rank of a cathedral in the early 15th century.
