DIRECT-CURRENT MOTOR AIR COMPRESSORS Realizing the need of a reliable and durable air compressor,the General Electric Company has recently put on the marketa direct-current motor-driven machine embodying these char-acteristics, as well as those of compactness and quiet intended primarily for the operation of air-brake sys-tems, these compressors are readily adapted for any service re-quiring air under pressure. As the illustration shows, thiscompressor is very compact and self-contained. The construc-tion is thoroughly dustproof, while at the same time every. â¢*03» DIRECT-CURRENT MOTOR AIR COMPRESSOR essential part is easily accessible. All bearings are suppliedwith dustproof doors, providing perfect protection from dirtand affording immediate access for inspection. In addition tothese features, the motor frame is bolted directly to the com-pressor frame by body bound bolts, which insure perfect align-ment and mesh of the gears. This makes it possible to removeand replace the motor without skilful readjustment. All mo-tors and all compressors of the same size are duplicates andperfectly interchangeable. Careful provision has been madefor the lubrication of all bearings, and the enclosed constructionaffords complete protection from water and dust. The motor on these compressors in every detail is madestrictly in accordance with the standard practice of the GeneralElectric Company in railway motor construction. The four-pole cast-steel magnet frame extends in both directions to forma complete box-shaped covering
