Statue of the Deese


The famous statue of the Déesse, at the middle of the attractive Place du General de Gaulle, also nicknamed : Grand'place (Main square), commemorates the resistance of Lille, during the Austrian siège of 1792 (during the French Revolution, France has been attacked by many European countries). The town has suffered during this period, and some major buildings have been destroyed, such as Saint Etienne church.
