Uman is a famous old historical centre in Central Ukraine. A small town is in Ukraine's history as a pilgrimage centre for hassidic Jews, for their Zaddik Rabbi Nakhman buried there. In 1767 thousands of Catholic Poles as well as Jews were massacred here by the troops of rebellious cossacks under the leadership of cossack Gonta. this town still bears memories of the centuries of Ukraine's bloody and brutal history
