Bust of the Swedish scientist Carl von Linné or Linnaeus ( 1707-1778 ) at Hortus Botanicus, the botanical garden of Leyden University, South Holland, The Netherlands. Linnaeus expended the Hortus Botanicus in 1736. Hortus Botanicus is the oldest botanical garden of the Netherlands and one of the oldest in the world. It is located behind the Leiden University Academy building. For more than four centuries, plants from all corners of the world have been collected and cultivated for research and educational purposes and displayed to the general public in this garden.
