Neuville Saint Vaast German Military Cemetery on the Somme


The image is of Neuville Saint Vaast German Military Cemetery near Arras at the Maison Blanche. The cemetery is the largest German cemetery on the Somme and contains the remains of almost 45'000 soldiers, 8'000 were never identified and are buried in a common grave . The cemetery is the site of the heavily defended German Command post known as the Labyrinth. Most soldiers died in the intense fighting on the Lorette Spur in 1915 and the Battle for Vimy Ridge of 1917-18.
