Fig. 8 the cable conduit has been filled ready for the last 6ins. of concre, and the borings have been rammed under the6-in. rail. When each nights work was finished the old track was con-nected with the new by means of connecting rails, details ofwhich are shown in Fig. 9. This connecting rail was movedahead from day to day until the work was completed. Severalgangs of men were worked on this job in order to complete it asrapidly as possible, and it was found that with a gang of fortymen about 1500 ft. of track could be laid each night in ^/zhours. This, of course, did not include the daylight work.
