ABRASIVE BELT FINISHING MACHINE The Blevney t\^e B-6 polishing and finishing machine, which is shown in the illustration, has been placed on themarket by the Blevney Machine Company, Greenfield, machine is designed to do such work as it has been cus-tomary to handle on the ordinary set-up or buffing wheel, where the work is held to the wheel by hand. The patented construction of the wheel and the use of abelt running over this wheel makes it possible to cut betterand produce a superior finish to that which may be obtainedon the ordinary solid wheel with an increase in Blevney Type B-6 Polishing and Finishing Machine The cost of abrasive is also reduced and the necessity ofcarrying a large stock of wheels is overcome. -The wheel is made up of a cast iron hub supporting twosteel flanges into which are fitted approximately 225 leatherblades attached to metal holding pieces which separate theleather sections from each other and also prevent radialbending of the leather under operating speed. The clothabrasive belt passes over this wheel on one end of the ma-chine and over a 12 in. idler pulley on the other end, thisbelt being the finishing member. The abrasive belt is auto-matically kept in tension by means of a weighted pressureoperating through a rack and pinion arrangement directlyon the spindle to which the idler pulley is attached. Thetension pressure weight when lifted to its extreme position November, 1917 RAILWAY MECHANICAL ENGINEER 653 will lock itself and become inoperative to facilitate thechanging of the abras
