An early portrait of celebrated French dancer, singer and silent film star Gaby Deslys (born Marie-Elise-Gabrielle Caire,1881 – 1920) , She was a singer and actress during the early 1900's. Her stage name was intended to be a contraction in French of Gabrielle of the Lillies. Her style of dancing was so popular that The Gaby Glide was named after her. She played at the Winter Garden theatre, Broadway in the USA and in the UK & performed in a show with a young Al Jolson. She died in Paris in 1920, at the age of 38 from the complications of catching Spanish Flu during the pandemic of 1919.
