Palazzo Dell'Orologio (Clock Tower) is located on the northern part of Piazza dei Cavalieri in Pisa, Tuscany, Italy

The Clock Tower, or Palazzo dell'Orologio is located on the northern part of Piazza dei Cavalieri in Pisa. The palace was made into this form between 1605 and 1608, uniting two existing two towers. It was used to house the sick or old knights of the St. Stefano Knighthood. The clock used to be installed in the bell tower of the Church of St. Stefano, and was moved here in 1696. This building is very well known because in one of the pre-existing towers, Torre dei Gualandi (now right side of the building), was used to confine Ugolino della Gherardesca and his family, who were left to starve to death. Ugolino, losing his mind because of long starvation, is said to have eaten his grandchild's dead body. This episode is narrated by Dante in Canto XXXIII of the Inferno, in the Divine Comedy. Now it is used as a part of the Scuola Normale Library.
