Dragon Eyes
The Chinese were one of the first cultures to create a method for calculating an earthquake. The astronomer, Zhang Heng, engineered a seismograph so that when the ground began to move it would swing a pendulum inside the giant urn, opening one of the dragon's mouths, and freeing a ball to drop. The dropped ball would land into an open mouth of a bronze frog below it, indicating the direction of the impending earthquake.
