He graduated from the General TheologicalSeminary in 1870, and returned to fulfill a promise made longbefore to Bishop Clark of Rhode Island to devote himself to mis-sion work in his diocese. Under the direction of the Bishop thework was begun as an associate mission in a small house on Snowstreet by three college and seminary friends, the late Rev. RobertH. Paine, at the time rector of St. Marys Church, East Provi-dence, and the two deacons just ordained at St. Stephens Church,the late Rev. Freeborn Coggeshall, , placed in charge of. REV.
