Students from neighboring schools visit the Green Roof atop the Diana Center at Barnard College in New York

Students from the Frederick Douglass Academy II visit the Green Roof atop the Diana Center at Barnard College in New York on Wednesday, April 14, 2010. The students were the first group to visit the green roof at the new center which is less than a year old. As part of the "Kids Go Green" event they learned about sustainability and urban spaces and the uses of green roofs to cut energy costs. The college also solicited ideas from the students for ways that the community can use the outdoor facility. (© Richard B. Levine)
